Cybrary

I signed up with Cybrary in 2021 with a specific goal in mind (to support certification study). Here are my thoughts on this learning platform.

On the plus side it has a HUGE library of courses (and this has grown alot since 2020 and continues to grow). They have a fabulous onboarding service (which is a really nice touch that not many learning sites offer) and a Discord group.

I loved the variety of course options, that they offer career paths and that for some topics they have virtual labs and test software available.

I really appreciate the extent they went to ensure good instructional design! The units are well planned. Each Unit (along with videos) has a downloadable Course Syllabus, complete with Course Description, Course Outline, Target Audience, Pre-requisites, Supplementary Materials, Related Books and Courses, and Course Goals.

I personally used it as part of my preparation to obtain my COMPTIA A+ (Core 1) and I found the Practice Tests extremely helpful. As this was studied supplementary to my university studies I found that I didn’t have the time I had hoped to do Cybrary courses, and before I knew it my subscription was up.

The only negative feedback I can offer is that some courses were quite US-focussed (to be expected given the location of the platform). Some of the videos were not as good quality (and when you needed to view full screen to read the command line for example you couldn’t as it was pixelated).

Overall, I really liked Cybrary.
